Hello... Suzie Tullett

Today I'm interviewing the gorgeous Suzie Tullet...

When did you first start writing Chick Lit? 

I started to write Chick Lit when decided to swap penning scripts for a living to penning books. I find it suits my voice and my personality.

What is it about this genre that appeals to you the most? Do you read other genres? If so, which? 
I love the strong and often quirky characters in a good Chick Lit story and the humour that comes from the situations the protagonists find themselves in can be hilarious. With a mix of comedy, romance and an emotional journey, what’s not to like?
I do read other genres, but probably not as much as I should. And when I do, it tends to be as a result of recommendation. One particular book that sticks out is Dead Run by Erica Spindler – a crime thriller that I absolutely loved. So much so that it’s stayed with me to this day.

Name one of your favourite Chick Lit books? 
Almost anything written by Marian Keyes – I love the way she’s able to tackle some quite serious issues but manages to maintain a sense of humour with it.

What's the title of your latest book? Can you tell us about it? 

My latest book is called Little White Lies and Butterflies. It follows the story of Lydia Livingston, a woman who’s come to a standstill in life. But rather than admit to the wider world that she’s in something of a rut, she invents a whole new, more exciting personal for herself. Unfortunately, it isn’t long before her little white lies start to catch up with her and the consequences for telling them start to go from bad to worse.





What inspired you to write it? 
As for inspiration, I remember reading something somewhere about a woman who’d gone on holiday on her own for the first time and whilst there, she re-invented herself. She made up a job, a personal life etc and I thought what if someone found out? What if someone realised she was fabricating a whole life story? And so the initial idea was born.

Is it part of a series? 
It’s not, no. Although readers are starting to ask if I plan to write a sequel.

Who designs your covers? 
That side of things is down to the publisher.

If your book was made into a film, who would you cast? 
I’m still enjoying the book in novel form so that’s a hard one to answer. Although I’d love to see Charlie Hunnam play Sam. He might be a Hollywood Hottie, but he’s also British which makes him perfect for the role.

Who is your all-time favourite Chick Lit character? 
Up to now, it’s got to be Ivy Ames from Karen Quinn’s The Ivy Chronicles.

Name one Chick Lit author who you think deserves to be better known. 
I’m going to be really cheeky here and say ‘Me’!

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

What a hard question... especially for someone whose life doesn't warrant a film being made! If pushed though, I'd have to say Jane Horrocks and my reasons for this are two-fold.

Firstly, we're both from the same neck of the woods, both blonde and both roughly the same age, give or take a couple of years. 

Secondly and a lot less flattering, is the fact that whenever I attended meetings at Granada Television in my role as a scriptwriter, someone always insisted on telling me I sound like Bubble from Ab Fab. I know, not even the actress's real name...
