Say hi to... Ophelia London

I want to read her books based on her author name alone! Please welcome the cute and quirky Ophelia London...
When did you first start reading Chick Lit?
“Bridget Jones’s Diary” was my first true chick lit. After that, it was a stream of Sophie Kinsella, Katie Fforde, Marian Keyes, Jennifer Crusie. You name it!

When did you first start writing Chick Lit?
I started out writing contemporary romance, but once I got the chick lit voice in my head, all my writing has that kind of vibe, because it’s my favorite.

What is it about this genre that appeals to you the most? Do you read other genres? If so, which?
The comedy and heart is what keeps drawing me back to chick lit. I read a bit of everything, though; a lot of YA these days, because there are some exciting series out there.

Name one of your favourite Chick Lit books?
Wow. That’s a very tough question! Can I name two authors instead? Anything by Marian Keyes and Sophie Kinsella. But if I HAVE to choose, I’d say Sophie’s “I’ve Got Your Number.” It’s the one I think about—and smile over—the most these days.

What's the title of your latest book? Can you tell us about it?
Sure! “Definitely, Maybe in Love” is the title. It’s my first stab at the “new adult” genre, and it’s a contemporary spin on Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice.”

What inspired you to write it?
I’ve always loved a great “opposites attract” story, and thought it would be cool to write one that took place in college…such an interesting time in your life, when you’re truly forming your future and still finding yourself. Throw in a classic love story, and that’s the making of real drama!

Is it part of a series?
Not yet, but I’ve been working on other Austen-ish spins. So, here’s hoping. :)

Who designs your covers?
I’m with the fabulous ladies at Entangled Publishing and we have a team of graphic artists. They do a great job for us.

If your latest book was made into a film, who would you cast?
I’ve had movie actors in mind for a really long time. For Spring, it’s Kristen Bell (from Veronica Mars), and for Henry, I’ve always seen Adam Brody. Swoon.

What's your favourite Chick Lit book that made it to the big screen?
“Bridget Jones’s Diary.” Hands down. (I must admit, I’m pretty heartbroken about the Mark Darcy teaser from book #3 we’ve heard lately. Boo!)

Who is your all-time favourite Chick Lit character?
I love Becky Bloomwood from the Shopaholic series. Also, Bridget Jones is my queen of all things, of course!

Name one Chick Lit author who you think deserves to be better known.
I wish Elizabeth Young would write novels again. Her books are fabulous. I also wish Katie Fforde was better known in the States. Sarah Mason is another. LOVE her stories. There’s too many!

In the movie of your life, who would play you?

Every time I catch a rerun of Seinfeld, I always crack up at the character of Elaine. It’s not so much that Julia Louis-Dreyfus would play me, it’s more like Elaine and I are the same person. She would have to play me in my life movie!

Speed Round...
Top drink to make you tipsy?
No drinking for this girl. Diet Coke is enough! Add some chocolate and I’ll probably pass out from pure bliss.
Shopaholic or shopadon't? Shopaholic. Definitely! Unfortunately…
Sky high heels or closer to the ground? I live in heels. The taller the better.
E.L. James or Jilly Cooper? I’d have to say Jilly Cooper. Nothing against the 50/Shades phenomenon, it’s just not my cup of tea.
Cry baby or tough cookie? Cry baby. As I writer, I keep my emotions right under my skin….always ready to spill out. I was sobbing the other day over a cotton commercial on TV.

Thank you for having me on your blog. It was such fun! Hooray for chick lit!
It was an absolute pleasure to have you here, Ophelia!

Ophelia London was born and raised among the redwood trees in beautiful northern California. Once she was fully educated, she decided to settle in Florida, but her car broke down in Texas and she's lived in Dallas ever since. A cupcake and treadmill aficionado (obviously those things are connected), she spends her time watching arthouse movies and impossibly trashy TV, while living vicariously through the characters in the books she writes. Ophelia is the author of ABBY ROAD, the Perfect Kisses series including: PLAYING AT LOVE, SPEAKING OF LOVE, “untitled #3” (Jan 2014), and the new adult DEFINITELY, MAYBE IN LOVE (Oct 2013).
