Review: Siren's Secret by Debbie Herbert

Siren's Secret by Debbie Herbert

I wanted to read this book as soon as I saw the cover. I mean, mermaids? What's not to like?! So I delved into it with an idea that it would be all sweetness and light – kind of like you imagine mermaid tales to be. WOW I couldn't have been wrong lol! But I wasn't disappointed. Not at all. It was a dark and mysterious murder mystery instead. One which had me sitting on the edge of my seat desperately wanting to know what was going to happen.
Set in the deep south (I just love settings like these at the moment – I'm a bit obsessed, in fact), Siren's Secret started off with a mermaid witnessing a body being dumped into the sea. A horrifying scene in which she sees the man responsible for the murder. The story basically follows her and the local police trying to solve the crime – but with all sorts of things getting in the way. There's also some deep romantic issues and family secrets throughout. Even though this wasn't what I was expecting, it was an excellent read and I look forward to reading more by Debbie Herbert.
