The City Center is about a utopian city where everything is perfect and protected from the Outsiders. However, the residents don't know is it's actually a prison. One of the residents, Ava, is a bit different than the others and senses something isn't right. She escapes to find out the truth about her city. On the outside, she must decide whether to keep running or to save her people.
What inspired you to write it?
I've always been a fan of Aldous Huxley's "A Brave New World" as well as the concept of Us vs. Them so I put together a tale that used both ideas.
How did you come up with the idea for the cover?
I worked with a very talent designer named Damon Za. I wanted something that would reflect both the city and the outside world, as well as the tone of the story.
If it was made into a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?

I'd love for Michael Fassbender to play Chief Morray. As for Ava, I'd like to see someone young and fresh. I have thoughts about the other characters, but since the actor pool constantly changes it's tough to name names -- I'll leave the casting to the professionals.
What is it about Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction that appeals to you so much?
I like the idea of starting from scratch and building a place that never existed. There's opportunity to slip in personal commentary about potential threats that could happen in the future if we're not careful. The characters are up against the same challenges as in a normal world scenario, only there are even more they have to come up against in this type of environment.
What made you want to become an author?
I've been writing since I was a little girl. When I pick up a pen and a notebook (or my laptop) I feel a surge of energy that connects me to life. I feel alive and joyous when I'm writing.
How do you come up with character names?
I look to the people in my life who have influenced me the most. And also characters from biblical stories, depending on their role in the story.

Who, or what, inspires you?
People who actually do things rather than talk about doing things.
Where is your favourite place to write?
Coffee shop. I'm cliche like that.
What is your favourite movie that was based on a book?
Stand By Me, which was based on Stephen King's The Body

The New Agenda -- the prequel to The City Center -- launches June 8th. It's a bit darker than The City Center and probably suited for a slightly more mature audience. I'm working on the third novel in the series, The Mainframe, and hoping to launch in December.
