When did you first start writing? And when were you first published?
I first started writing when I was about eleven or twelve. I would lock myself away in my room and just write story, after story, after story. It wasn’t until later in life (mid-twenties) that I started to take my writing seriously. BETWEEN FRIENDS was my first published novel and PERFECT SENSE won’t be the last!!!

What is it about 'chick lit' / 'romance' that appeals to you the most? Do you read other genres?
For me, ‘chick-lit’ and ‘romance’ is an easy escape from the realities of everyday life. It’s wistful and sweet, and I am a sucker for a relatable heroine and sexy hero who are somehow meant to be together on a quest for true love. I know it sounds cheesy, but I am a hopeless romantic!!! I can’t resist a good boy meets girl story. I am just drawn to it and always have been. And even if I do read other genres (like fantasy or sci-fi), if there is not a romantic element to it, it’s not for me!

Can you tell us a little about your latest release?
In a nutshell, PERFECT SENSE is an angsty romance about a bad-boy hockey star, Cash Brooks, with a sordid past, who falls for a conservative and ambitious college student, Quinn Ashby, when she accepts an internship working for his hockey team.

What inspired you to write it?
Cash and Quinn’s story was inspired by my husband (who is also a hockey player). We were sitting around one night and I was telling him I wanted to write an angsty love story. I was working on another novel, but I felt like it just wasn’t coming together the way I wanted it to. I told him I needed to challenge myself and write something different than my comfort zone and previous novel Between Friends (which is more of a romantic comedy and sweet love story). So he said that I should write a story about a hockey player, and told me about Theo Fleurry, a Canadian hockey player who suffered with an addiction. I immediately Googled Theo Fleurry and his story. He had an autobiography published in 2009 called Playing with Fire. And as I read his story, it started to inspire me to write and create Cash and Quinn’s story.

If it was made into a film, who would you cast as the main characters?
Cash – Robbie Amell (And he’s Canadian too!)
Quinn – Lily Collins

What is your favourite book that made it to the big screen?

Lovie Rosie If you love romance and haven’t seen the movie, you need to!

What was the last book you read and would you recommend it?
Wallbanger by Alice Clayton…and yes I would recommend it! Very funny and sweet read.

Where do you currently write? And where would be your dream writing location?
Currently, at my kitchen table! My dream writing location would be in Costa Rica, looking out at the ocean while sipping a delicious cappuccino and typing away.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.
For some reason I hoard frozen bananas in my freezer! I never bake anything, but I have enough frozen bananas to make banana bread for an entire year!

Tell us an interesting fact about where you live.
The winter months are soooo cold and we get a ton of snow!!! In 1977 the operation of snowmobiles on city streets were authorized during the “snowstorm of the century.”

What inspires you as an author?
My love for story-telling

Do you have a muse?
Oddly enough, the shower. If I ever want my creativity to flow, all I need to do is stand under a shower head.

Who would play you in the movie about your life?
Julia Roberts!

What are your (writing) plans for the future?
I’m working on two other novels, TAINTED (a love triangle romance) and FROM A TO Z (a friends to lovers romance), both anticipated to be released 2017. I am also working on a book titled WINGMAN (a second friends to lovers romance), anticipated to release 2018. I have a lot on the go!

Tell us one thing that's on your bucket list.

Visit Italy. Most importantly, the villages where my grandparent’s grew up in Calabria.

What do you listen to whilst writing?
Country music

Name one of your all time favourite songs.
The Heart Won’t Lie – Reba McEntire & Vince Gill

Amanda Cowen can be found eating cupcakes, singing off-key, or watching a good RomCom when she isn’t trapped on her computer writing stories and delighting her imagination. She has been writing since the ripe age of twelve about ponies and princesses in brightly colored duo-tangs with metallic pens. Thankfully, she now has a Mac with a keyboard where she can write about love, sex and relationships. She is an “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fanatic, a hater of roller-coasters and a country music junkie. She lives in Thunder Bay, ON where the summers are short and the winters are long.
Her next Contemporary Romance/New Adult Fiction novel TAINTED (The Wyatt Series #1) will be available in Summer 2014.
