Do dreams ever inspire your writing? What did you last dream about?
I can’t say that they have, although who knows what one’s subconscious mind has done. I recently dreamed about going to Starbucks and ordering a chai latte, which was strange because I am strictly a cappuccino girl.
When did you first start writing? And when were you first published?
I started writing seriously in about 2004 and my first novel was published in 2009. However, I have some first chapters of romantic novels written when I was still at school (more years ago than I care to calculate.)
What is it about 'chick lit' that appeals to you the most? Do you read other genres?
I like chick lit for the wit and laughs. I read a lot of historical fiction and in particular historical romance, which is my genre. I enjoy all sorts of books, romance and others.
Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
Lady Windermere’s Lover is the third in a series of books about a very badly behaved set of Georgian lads who got chucked out of Oxford in 1789 for breaking into the Bodleian Library’s erotic art collection.
Damian, the Earl of Windermere gambled away his estate at the age of twenty-one and was the first of the group to “reform.” Disgusted with himself, he reformed too much and became a stick-in-the-mud diplomat. Unlike his former friends, he needs to loosen up. To win back his estate, he marries heiress Cynthia, whom he resents and treats badly. After a year abroad he comes back with the intention of trying to make something of his marriage. Shy and dowdy Cynthia has bloomed in his absence. She is also apparently having an affair with Damian’s former best friend, the Duke of Denford. Just to complicate matters, Damian’s government job requires him to reconcile with Denford at the same time he is trying to win back his wife.
Have you ever spotted anyone reading your books anywhere?
I wish! Once someone posted on Twitter that they’d seen a teenage boy on the subway reading a “trashy book” called Confessions from an Arranged Marriage, which is one of mine. Massive fist pump!
Who designs your covers?
My publisher, Avon, does a fabulous job with them.
If your latest book was made into a film, who would you cast?
I’m totally hopeless at celebrities so I asked my daughter. Her answer is Teresa Palmer and Henry Cavill.
What's your favourite Chick Lit book that made it to the big screen?
It has to be Bridget Jones’s Diary. I love the fight between Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. I think it’s on the DVD of the second film that they have Renee Zellwigger doing the interview with Colin Firth from the book. So funny.
What were the last two books you read?
Three Weeks with Lady X by Eloisa James (fabulous!) and R Is For Rebel by Megan Mulry (also fabulous).
Name one female author who you think deserves to be better known.
Aside from myself? (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) I think Megan Mulry, author of a wonderful series about English aristocrats dating crazy Americans, is going to be a big star.
Where do you write?
I have an antique desk in a peaceful room with a lovely garden view. But I mostly write (a) on the sofa (b) in bed and (c) at the kitchen table.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? And did you follow the dream?
I wanted to be an actress. Derisive laugh.

Miranda Neville grew up in England. During her misspent youth she devoured the works of Georgette Heyer, Jean Plaidy, and any other historical novels she could lay hands on. As a result she attended the University of Oxford to study history, ignoring all hints that economics might be a more practical subject. She spent several years writing catalogs of rare books and original letters and manuscripts for Sotheby’s auction house in London and New York. Much of her time in this job was spent reading the personal correspondence of the famous. This confirmed her suspicion that the most interesting thing about history is people.
Since moving to Vermont, she has worked in Special Collections at Dartmouth College and as an editor and journalist on Behind the Times, a small, idiosyncratic (and now defunct) monthly newspaper. She is the owner and editor of a weekly advertiser in the Upper Valley, a job that leaves her enough time to write fiction.
Her first book, Never Resist Temptation. was published by Avon in 2009. The first two books in the Burgundy Club series will be published in 2010.
She lives with her daugher, Becca, a college student and confirmed drama queen, and two cats who are never on the right side of any door.
