Pretty soon the attraction they’ve tried to ignore boils to the surface. And after Fredrick shows Janiyah the man behind the numbers, she’s ready to show him that she’s just the type of woman he needs.

Will They/Won’t They
The most fun part about writing Just My Type was building up the will they/won’t they between the hero and heroine, Fredrick and Janiyah. This is admittedly my favorite part of a romance. The chapters before they admit they’re in love, go back and forth with the debate on whether or not to be together, and of course the buildup of sexual tension. It makes it all the more exciting when the couple ultimately succumbs to their feelings and let’s go of whatever it was that kept them from being with the other character.
Love is wonderful, but falling in love can be difficult. During the will they/won’t they part of any romance you get to experience the joys … and pains of falling in love. I recently heard someone describe love as a disease, and it certainly feels like you’re coming down with something while falling over the cliff into love.
If the couple gets together too soon, then it’s kind of a letdown. How many times has a sitcom lost it’s something special when the two main characters get together. That’s how I feel when reading and the couple easily gets together. I like a bit of drama before the happily ever after. Call me cruel, but I love it when the hero and heroine can make things work after they’ve gone through that big black moment when they believe nothing can make their relationship work. It leads to the happy sigh at the end, maybe a tear or two, and for me a completely satisfying ending.
