Something Sweeter
Sweet Texas Series #3
By: Candis Terry
Releasing June 24th, 2014
The men in Texas are hard to resist . . . Seattle event planner Allison Lane is an expert at delivering the perfect wedding—even if she might not exactly believe in the whole "'til death do us part" thing. When her father decides to tie the knot with a woman he barely knows, Allison heads to Sweet, Texas, to make sure his new honey is the real deal. What she didn't expect to find at the local honky-tonk was a sexy Southern man as bent on charming her pants off as he is on blowing her "true love doesn't exist" theory all to hell. And they always promise . . .
Veterinarian, former Marine, and Sweet's favorite playboy Jesse Wilder takes one look at Allison and knows she's a handful of trouble he can't deny. But even after a sizzling kiss and obvious mutual attraction, it seems Allison has no such problem. When Jesse uncovers her sweet side, can he crush his playboy image, melt her cynical heart, and change her mind about taking a trip down the aisle?

Author Interview
Do dreams ever inspire your writing? What did you last dream about?
I’ve never had a dream inspire my writing. However, when I first wake up in the morning my head is usually filled with ideas on how to write the next scene or chapter. I’m not sure if this is connected to dreaming but I’m very glad it happens. Sadly I rarely remember a dream unless it scares the pajama bottoms off me.
When did you first start writing? And when were you first published?
I got my first idea for a book way back in 1989 and I didn’t sell my first book until 2010. I worked at learning to write all those years although I didn’t always try to sell a book. I have to say when “The Call” finally came in I couldn’t believe it. I’m still a bit mind-boggled that it actually happened.
Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
Something Sweeter is the third book in the Sweet, Texas series. The hero, Jesse Wilder, is a former Marine and a veterinarian who holds the honor of being Sweet’s most notorious playboy who had no intention of marrying. Heroine Allison Lane drops into his life when she comes to investigate the woman her father’s has suspiciously proposed to. That woman is Jesse’s mom. Allison is a wedding planner who doesn’t believe in true love or happily ever afters. Playboy Jesse takes it upon himself to try to get her to change her mind. His methods may not always be conventional, but they are always from the heart, and are often hilarious.
What inspired you to write it?
I love stories with an opposite attracts theme, and on the surface, Jesse and Allison couldn’t be more polar opposites if they tried. But deep inside they really want the same thing. Having written two previous books in which Jesse appeared; I couldn’t wait to see him get his happy ending.
Have you ever spotted anyone reading your books anywhere?
I haven’t, but I can imagine it would be both strange and very cool.
Who designs your covers?
The art department at Avon Books designs all my covers with some suggestions and ideas from me. The only cover that is different is Something Sweeter. The cover is from a photo I found on the Internet from an actual wedding with an actual newlywed couple. We were able to obtain permission to use the photo. I’m so grateful to the photographer and the couple because the photo/cover completely exhibits the fun throughout the story.
If your latest book was made into a film, who would you cast?
Without a doubt, Jesse Wilder would be played by Chris Hemsworth, because that’s who I envisioned while writing the book. Allison would probably be played by Rachel McAdams, but she’d look like Ashley Greene from the Twilight movies.
What were the last two books you read?
I just finished Vampire Trouble by Sara Humphreys (wonderful!) and Fury of Fate by Coreene Callahan (Fabulous!).
Where do you write?
I have a private office that used to be a formal living room we never used. I have a great view of the Boise National Forest in the distance and my dogs walking by the window wondering when I’m going to let them in the house.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? And did you follow the dream?
I wanted to be a dancer. I did dance a lot, sometimes even professionally, but I never made a dime from it.
In the movie of your life, who would play you?
I have no idea but my husband says probably Emma Thompson without the British accent. She’s no-nonsense and can deliver a good bit of snark.
Speed Round...
Top drink to make you tipsy? Long Island Iced Tea
Shopaholic or shopadon't? Shopadon’t. I usually only shop to buy stuff for other people or if I have to.
Sky high heels or closer to the ground? I did my time in sky high heels, now my feet hate me. So it’s closer to the ground these days.
Cry baby or tough cookie? Oh, I’m definitely a tough cookie.
Exotic beach or enchanted forest? Enchanted forest.
